Between 11-13 November Human Dignity Trust and LexisNexis, together with sponsors Amazon Web Services, Freshfields, Hogan Lovells and Osborne Clarke organised ‘Hack the Change’, the first Rule of Law Hackathon in London. The event brought together experts from the legal and technology worlds to design technological solutions to a challenge designed by the Human Dignity Trust’s Kapil Gupta and Richie Maitland. The challenge asked the participants to create a design to connect lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) people with those documenting and fighting discrimination.

We received several innovative and exciting designs from five teams which saw over 40 coders, developers and designers from the legal and tech worlds come together in an inspirational 48 hour challenge. Experts from Amazon Web Services, LexisNexis and the three leading law firms were on hand throughout the event to assist the teams with complex engineering queries. Leading Sri Lankan activist Rosanna Flamer-Caldera was also present as an expert throughout the Hackathon and was one of the judges.

We will soon be announcing the winning design and will be taking the solution forward with support from the designers and our legal panel members Hogan Lovells.
