Founded in 2011, the Human Dignity Trust is the only organisation working internationally using strategic litigation to challenge and overturn laws that criminalise LGBT people.
Our founder, Tim Otty KC – a leading barrister – saw an opportunity for the international legal community to play a role in one of the major human rights issues of our time. Inspired by distinguished jurists from India, South Africa, Guyana and beyond – many of whom later became our Patrons – Tim established the Human Dignity Trust to harness the power of the law for change.
Learn more about our founding story, and our journey so far, in this video celebrating our 10th anniversary.
In London, UK and around the world, our team of lawyers and communications specialists work with LGBT activists and lawyers in criminalising jurisdictions, as well as with governments who seek our technical assistance with law reform. We are always led by the needs of our partners, collaborating with them at their request.
To date, our work has been supported by over £22 million worth of pro bono technical legal assistance from our network of 25 of the world’s largest law firms, and leading UK and international human rights barristers.
