The Trust is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr Conway Blake as the new Chair of our Board of Trustees.

Originally from Jamaica, Dr Blake is a Partner at the leading international law firm Debevoise & Plimpton, working in the International Dispute Resolution Group based in London. He is admitted as a Solicitor Advocate in England & Wales and is also called to the bar of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. Dr Blake has an active pro bono practice and has represented clients on matters before the European Court of Human Rights, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

‘I am very honoured to take on the role of Chair of the Human Dignity Trust, whose work I have admired and supported for many years. The Trust’s commitment to legal excellence and support for local partners is unparalleled, and its global impact is huge. Becoming a Trustee five years ago and now chairing the Board is an honour, and I look forward to working with our outstanding staff team to continue to deliver meaningful change in the years to come,’ says Dr Blake.

Téa Braun, the Trust’s Chief Executive, says ‘I’m delighted to have Conway as our Chair. He has been involved with the Trust’s work from the very beginning and brings with him a deep understanding of our technical legal work, the complex issues we seek to address, and our organisational culture and ways of working. We look forward to working with him as Chair as we continue and expand our work to decriminalise LGBT people globally and advance protective laws.’

Julia Chain recently stepped down as Chair of the Trust’s Board due to competing obligations, while remaining a trustee. She commented, ‘This is an excellent appointment for HDT and its fantastic work.’
